Family YMCA of Black Hawk County

New Coach for YMCA Youth Soccer Clinic

Meet Ebony, the Youth Soccer Clinic Coach for this summer!

Ebony has been working at the Family YMCA of Black Hawk County since April, but that is not the extent of her experience with the Y. When she was growing up in Florida, she began her involvement with her local Y as a camp counselor for a golf camp called The First Tee. In addition to coaching our youth soccer clinic, Ebony will also be a camp counselor this summer.

Soccer became a part of Ebony’s life in 1999 when she joined Braden River Soccer Club, where she played for 8 years. Since then, she has played for Lakeland FC, Iowa Central Community College, University of Texas of the Permian Basin, and the Semi-Pro teams: VSI Flames and Des Moines Menace.

After her long and successful run as a player, Ebony turned to coaching in 2016. She was the Assistant Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach at Spoto High School in Florida, Assistant Men’s and Women’s Soccer Coach and Goalkeeper Coach at Hawkeye Community College, the Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at Susquehanna University, and is currently the Iowa Rush Goalkeeper Coach.

Ebony holds a U.S. Soccer Federation F & E National Coaching License and a National Soccer Coaches of America Association Goalkeeping Level 1 & 2 Diploma.

She received her Associate of Arts for Elementary Education from Iowa Central Community College and her Bachelor of the Arts for Multidisciplinary Studies from University of Texas Permian Basin. Ebony also began working towards her Master of Sports Administration – Coaching and Leadership Education from Upper Iowa University in January.

When she is not playing soccer, Ebony loves to work out and sing.

“My favorite thing about working at the YMCA is the opportunity to interact and develop youth. As an Education major and former kindergarten teacher, I enjoy teaching youth sports as well as academics and it’s amazing to see the positive development in all aspects in a short/long period of time. The children keep you active and on your toes and  I enjoy learning from them just as much as they learn from me.”

We are so excited to have Ebony on our team this summer as our Youth Soccer Coach for the Summer Soccer Clinic and as a camp counselor!
