Today’s youth are a top priority of the Black Hawk County YMCA. Our goal is to help parents engage their kids in activities at a young age to develop a foundation for lifelong health and fitness pursuits.

SUMMER YOUTH SPORTS CLINICS

Our summer clinics are a fun way to engage kids in sports and high-active fun during the summer months. Sign them up for one week, or for all eight and receive 10% off.

ADULT/YOUTH KARATE (SHITO-RYU)

Karate encourages self-confidence, self-respect, and discipline. Inspired students may ultimately achieve Black Belt (Shodan) level of promotion. Youth over age 10 and adults at any skill level are welcome. This is a year-round program. Session runs seven weeks.

RICE TAE KWON DO

Tae kwon do is an excellent way for youth to develop balance, coordination, self-discipline and respect. Martial Arts also helps adults and children improve self-control, self-confidence, flexibility, weight control and physical fitness. Since tae kwon do is a year-round activity, it is a great aerobic exercise. A large benefit of being in tae kwon do is that it is one of the few activities that all family members can participate in.

Youth Wellness ORIENTATIONS
Youth ages 12-15 who want to use the fitness center area MUST complete this orientation. This one-session program provides information on cardiovascular exercise, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility. Participants will learn general safety guidelines, proper gym etiquette as well as how to use the cardio and strength training equipment. After successful completion of the program, youth will be allowed to work out in the fitness center area without adult supervision. Sign up at the Welcome Center Desk. This orientation is for members only.
Youth Personal Training (Ages 10-17)
Youth Personal Training allows youth to train in a safe environment with a YMCA personal trainer who can help them learn age-appropriate exercises, improve their general fitness and/or sport-specific skills, and help them achieve their fitness goals. All youth sessions are one-on-one and are 30 minutes in duration.
