In our community, the Y is a leading provider of swim lessons, water safety learning, and aqua therapy. Between our parent/child, pre-school and school age lessons, private and semi-private lessons for youth and adult, lap swimming, water aerobics, aqua arthritis classes, and our competitive swim team, our pool is a much used and much needed resource for the Cedar Valley. Open seven days a week, our pools are consistently filled with community members learning to swim and enjoying the benefits of aqua therapy.
Having quality pools at the Y serves the community in two primary ways. The first way involves our ability to offer year round swim lessons and our Water Safety Education program which provide vital opportunities for kids to learn how to be safe in and around water. Learning how to swim and make wise decisions around bodies of water is critical to children’s safety, both when they are young and also when they become adults. Our community has few indoor swimming facilities that are open to the public and provide swim lessons year round.
The second way our pools meet critical needs in our community is in providing aqua therapy for those dealing with chronic health issues, including arthritis, Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia, and those who have had joint replacements. Our facility is often recommended by local physical therapists because of our pool and aquatic specialty classes, like our Water Arthritis class. Across our water exercise classes, we serve hundreds of older adults, many of whom come to help with their chronic diseases and pain.
Join us in ensuring this valuable community resource is maintained and protected for future generations of young and old alike.
