MEMBERSHIP - Our Commitment

At the Y, we work each day to make a meaningful difference in the life of each person who walks through our doors. With a focus on nurturing the potential of children and teens, improving the health and wellness of individuals, and giving back to our neighbors, our cause is to strengthen the community.

We believe everyone deserves a Y, so the Black Hawk County YMCA offers an Income-Based Membership Pricing structure. This program offers a sliding fee scale that is designed to fit the financial situation of each individual household in our community. We believe people should have access to the programs and services at the YMCA that nurture the spirit, mind, and body – regardless of their personal financial circumstances.

**The Y is a Silver Sneakers(R), Silver & Fit(R), Prime Network, and AmeriHealth Caritas Iowa participating provider.

The Y movement is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  We want to encourage members to utilize the Y as often as they can.  Sometimes, it's more convenient for members to utilize a Y in a different location when traveling, near a workplace or in another region.  Now, full facility/full privilege YMCA members have the flexibility to use other Y facilities throughout the state, at no extra charge.

How It Works: Simply present your active YMCA membership card and photo ID at any participating YMCA and enjoy free access.

Find Your Ys: For a complete list of participating YMCAs and complete details, visit the Welcome Center or

Our YMCA participates in the AWAY (Always Welcome at YMCAs) program. The AWAY program is helpful to those members who are traveling outside of Iowa or for members outside of Iowa who want to visit an Iowa Y. Each YMCA develops its own policies for administering the AWAY program. For that reason, we suggest that you contact the YMCA you are visiting ahead of time to verify their policies.

We welcome AWAY member guests to use our facilities free 10 times per calendar year. After the 10th visit, half the regular guest fee will be assessed. AWAY member guests may not bring guests or register for programs.

*Guests and AWAY program members will have access to our basic locker room during their visit. Please bring a photo ID so membership can be verified.

The YMCA’s age requirements have been developed with safety and the core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in mind.

Please Note: This is a general guideline. The YMCA reserves the right to make adjustments as needed and to determine what “responsible” behaviors are for supervisors of young children.
