GRUNDY FAMILY YMCA HISTORY:
The Grundy Family YMCA started in 2003 as a branch of the Family YMCA of Black Hawk County. The Grundy Center branch has a local board of directors who sets policies and keeps the YMCA in touch with the needs of the community. Staff and volunteers at the Y play important roles in program development and implementation. Through a partnership with the Grundy Center School District, the YMCA Fitness Center was located in the High School from 2003-June 30, 2016. A new YMCA location opened July 1st, 2016 at 102 East G Ave. This renovated facility was previously operated by the Grundy County Rural Electric Cooperative. The new location became a possibility through a partnership with the Grundy County Memorial Hospital. This location provides improved access through a more convenient location in the community, increased hours of operation and better parking.
Childcare programs including Before & After School Care, School’s Out Fun Days and Summer Day Camp are offered in the Upper Elementary school year round. Adult and Youth fitness activities are also offered at the Upper Elementary school building in the second floor Fitness Studios. Other areas the YMCA offers programming include: the Grundy Center Elementary, Upper Elementary and High School gymnasiums; football field, George E. Wilhelm Sports Complex, Grundy Center city parks and the AmericInn swimming pool.
