Girls on the Run
The Family YMCA of Black Hawk County partnered with Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa to expand their program into Black Hawk County this past Spring. The volunteer-led program brings together groups of 8-15 girls for a ten-week program that encompasses 20 various lessons that encourages personal development, team building and connection to the community. Girls on the Run has inspired girls in the Eastern Iowa area for over ten years and has impacted the lives of thousands of girls. In the Spring and Fall of 2019 we were able to serve 6 different schools throughout the Cedar Valley such as Aldrich, Lincoln, and Southdale in Cedar Falls and Lincoln, Lou Henry, and Poyner in Waterloo. In our 2 seasons combined, we served a total of 140 girls! We’re excited to announce the addition of a few more locations for our Spring 2020 Girls on the Run season. Check out the sites below:

A generous program sponsorship by VGM Group is ensuring that this program is available to any girl, regardless of financial resources. The program is also supported by a grant from Teen Trust of the Northeast Iowa Community Foundation.

If you are interested in becoming a new coach at one of our six sites, please fill out a new coach application
If you were a coach last season in the Spring and would like to a coach again this Fall, please fill out a returning coach application
New coaches will be required to attend a ‘New Coach Training’ at the Family YMCA of Black Hawk County on Saturday, February 8 from 9:00am – 1:00pm. If you can not attend that training, you will be required to go to a different training in Cedar Rapids or Iowa City. Find more training sites and dates at the Girls on the Run website.
