Lifeguard Certification
The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatics emergencies. This includes land & water rescue skills as well as first aid and CPR.

Prerequisites
- Must be 15 years old on or before the last scheduled session of the course
- Must successfully complete the prerequisite skills evaluation on first day of class: 300 yard swim, tread water for 2 minutes (using legs only), retrieve 10 lb brick from six-feet of water or deeper
- You must be present for ALL the days in order to receive your certification

Lifeguard Re-Certification
Must possess and provide proof of a current lifeguard certification to enroll in re-certification class.

- Current lifeguard certification. If your certification is more than 30 days past the expiration date, you will be required to take the full lifeguard course.

WSI – Water Safety Instructor
The purpose of this instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, Adult Swim, Private Lessons, Water Safety Courses (including Safety Training for Swim Coaches*) and Water Safety Presentations.

Cost: $100 for Y Members and $125 for Y Program Member or Non-Members
Prerequisites
- Be at least 16 years old on or before the last day of the Instructor Course
- Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills:
1. Swim the following strokes consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 4:
- Front Crawl – 25 yards
- Back Crawl – 25 yards
- Breaststroke – 25 yards
- Elementary Backstroke – 25 yards
- Sidestroke – 25 yards
- Butterfly – 15 yards
2. Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)
3. Tread water for 1 minute
