Swim Team Information

Why Swimming?
  • Learn a new sport.
  • Not just a team sport, but also individual sport.
  • Compete with other athletes across the state.
  • Learn an important lifesaving skill.
  • Great exercise and positive use of excess energy.
  • Low injury/impact sport.
  • Everyone participates.
  • Great way to prepare for high school.
Who?
  • Boys and girls ages 5 and up.
When?
  • Skippers (ages 5-7)
  • Must be able to float on Front and Back.
  • Monday - Thursday
  • 5:00pm-5:45pm
  • $25 per month

  • First Mates (ages 5-8)
  • More detailed stroke development.
  • Monday - Friday
  • 5:00pm-6:00pm
  • $28 per month
  •  
  • Buccaneers (ages 9-12)
  • Building stroke strength and endurance.
  • Monday - Friday
  • 5:00pm-6:30pm
  • $30 per month
  •  
  • Pirates (ages 13 and up)
  • Increase endurance, stroke development, and muscle building.
  • Monday - Friday
  • 5:00pm-7:00pm
  • $32 per month

*Practices are strongly recommended but only a set number are required before swimmers are able to compete in each meet.

  • Practices will be at the Family YMCA of Black Hawk County in Waterloo.
  • Centrally located to adequately serve Waterloo, Cedar Falls, and surrounding areas.

Other Classes Available

Both full classes and renewal classes can be set up at the YMCA for the following: Lifeguarding, Basic First Aid, Community CPR, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and AED.
  • A minimum number of participants is required for each course and/or renewal or class may be cancelled.
  • Prices vary according to the course.
  • All classes are American Red Cross Courses.
